Plas Gwyn Guest House - Beddgelert, Snowdonia.

The Snowdonia National Park encompasses all the high mountains in North Wales stretching from the coast in the north around Conwy via fourteen 3,000 foot summits to the glorious estuary of the River Dyfi in the south. Famous for Snowdon , at 3,560 feet the highest point in England and Wales, it also includes historic woodland, moorland, quiet secluded valleys with clear streams bubbling through them as well as some of the most impressive castles in the United Kingdom. Around Beddgelert there is much to do and enjoy. Walking, climbing, fishing, golf, water sports as well as riding and photographing the historic narrow gauge railways are just some of the activities our guests enjoy.

Beddgelert takes it's name from the legend about the tragic death of the dog 'Gelert' and his grave is a short walk along the river from the village centre. Also worth visiting is the lovely Parish Church of St. Mary's with parts of the fabric dating back many centuries. It was built on the site of an Augustan Priory. Beddgelert was also the Home of Alfred Bestall who was the man behind the world famous Rupert Bear stories. There is no doubt that many of the illustrations in these books were inspired by scenes and people around Beddgelert.

The village has won various "Britain in Bloom" and "Wales in Bloom" awards over many years and has recently excelled itself in winning a Gold Award in the "Europe in Bloom" contest.

Just outside the village, two of the recommended paths to the summit of Snowdon are within a few minutes drive but probably it's greatest gem is the incomparable Aberglaslyn Pass where the River Glaslyn froths and boils it's way down towards the sea along a deep ravine clothed in rhododendrons - a pleasant walk along the river will take you there.

Winter brings a whole new feel to the area with crisp days, clear skies, snowcapped mountains and the aroma of log fires in the local hostelries. Many people feel that Snowdonia, outside high summer, has a completely different, and equally magical, appeal.
